Location & Directions
Glenelg and the Skye ferry (April to October only): Probably the best way to reach the island is by the Skye ferry from Glenelg. If driving from Inverness or Fort William turn left over the bridge at Shiel Bridge and follow the windy single-track road over the spectacular Ratagan pass. In Glenelg turn right at the cross roads and follow the signs to the unique six car turntable Skye ferry. The ferry runs from April to October approximately every 20 minutes and no booking is neccessary. On arriving on Skye follow the winding single track road for seven miles over a mountain pass and then turn left on the A87 towards Portree. Follow this road for 4 miles into Broadford past the Co-op and petrol station. After crossing a small bridge take the first turning right towards the Youth Hostel. Follow the road for about 200 metres and The Old Manse is the third house on the left.
Please check signs to confirm ferry is running prior to turning onto the Glenelg road as the ferry is occasionally cancelled due to poor weather.
The Skye bridge: After crossing the now toll free Skye bridge take the third exit towards Broadford and Portree. Follow the A87 for 7 miles into Broadford village past the Co-op and petrol station. After crossing a small bridge take the first turning right towards the Youth Hostel. Follow the road for about 200 metres and The Old Manse is the third house on the left.
The Mallaig - Armadale Ferry: On arriving at Armadale on Skye from the Mallaig ferry follow the A851 for 14 miles towards Broadford and Portree. On reaching the A87 turn left into Broadford village past the Co-op and petrol station. After crossing a small bridge take the first turning right towards the Youth Hostel. Follow the road for about 200 metres and The Old Manse is the third house on the left.
